HRH Princess Elisabeth of Araucania and Patagonia dies

On the 23rd January, the Royal Council and its members, the President of the Institute of the Royal Household of Araucania-Patagonia, the President of the Franco-Araucano Memory, the Administrative Council and members of the Araucanian-Patagonian Kingdom released a statement giving notice of the death of HRH Princess Elisabeth of Araucania and Patagonia . Princess Elisabeth died in a hospital in Paris on Friday 21 st January 2006 , after a heart operation.

Prince Philippe and Elisabeth de Chavigny were married in 1996; one of the witnesses at their wedding was a Mapuche leader. Princess Elisabeth was a faithful companion to Prince Philippe and participated in the official activities of the monarchy. Her pleasant and warm character will be missed by all those who knew her.

Prince Philippe and Princess Elisabeth had planned to travel to Wallmapu at the beginning of the month, after being invited by a great number of traditional Mapuche authorities. The party was invited to take part in a series of activities to celebrate the "Day of Sovereignty of the Mapuche Nation " which takes place on the 6 th January every year.

A funeral mass was conducted at the church of Saint Nicolas du Chardonnet in Paris on Wednesday 25 th January at 10.30am.

The statement made by the above mentioned bodies ended by expressing their deepest condolences for HRH Prince Philippe of Araucania and Patagonia.
