The Kingdom of Araucania and Patagonia

November 17th 2010 marks the 150th anniversary of the indigenous Mapuche Kingdom of Araucania and Patagonia, whose territory Wallmapu spans from the Bio-Bio and Colorado rivers in the North, to the Southern tip of South America. Since 1885 the territory has been illegally occupied by the modern states of Chile and Argentina and the Kingdom's government is now in exile in France.

The constitutional Kingdom of Araucania and Patagonia* was created in 1860 by the highest Mapuche authorities, Lonko and Toki (Chiefs) of their nation, and French lawyer Orélie Antoine de Tounens, in a national assembly in which over 3.000 representatives from all over the Mapuche land were gathered together. Their aim was to attain international recognition for their independence as they faced the imminent threat of colonial invasion by Chile and Argentina.

The current head of state, HRH Prince Philippe will mark this auspicious occasion at a Royal ceremony to take place at the La Chéze, Dordogne, province of Périgord, France, the birthplace of his predecessor King Orélie Antoine I, the founding Monarch of the Mapuche Sovereign state. The ceremony will be attended by members of the Kings Council, Mapuche representatives and international dignitaries.

As a prelude to this unique historic occasion Reynaldo Mariqueo, Charge d’ Affaires to the Kingdom of Araucania and Patagonia, Nina Dean, Vice secretary of Mapuche International Link* and Eilian Williams wish to cordially invite you to a conference which will take place at the House of Commons, London, UK which aims to raise awareness of this ancient and unique indigenous Kingdom. The conference will consist of a presentation of the history and current activities of the Kingdom and contributions from national and international representatives of independent nations and NGO’s.

An early day motion on the Mapuche human and territorial rights situation, is currently in process within the UK Parliament as such we would be most grateful for your support of this motion, link as follows:
