Now days, their struggle is focused on maintaining their identity and stopping the encroachment of multinational corporations in Mapuche ancestral territory. The Mapuche people live in less than the 2% of their original land; they have been forced to live in poverty and many had to migrate from their land. The Chilean state answers their demands using the anti-terrorist legislation of the Pinochet regime; the Mapuche people experience a systematic repression from the police and as a result there have been several unlawful killings; mapuches in prison and their property vandalize.
