Supporting Mapuche International Link

February 2004

Mapuche International Link (MIL) is an international voluntary movement of people who campaign for social, economic, political and environmental justice for the indigenous Mapuche peoples of Chile and Argentina.

MIL was established in the UK in 1996 and is now supported by members in all corners of the world who share a common concern for the plight of the indigenous Mapuche nation. Our work would not be possible without the support and dedication of the volunteers who are helping to bring about a just and peaceful resolution to the Mapuche conflict.

If you would like to support our work, there exist a diverse range of exciting opportunities, regardless of where you are based. All positions require a genuine interest in human rights, the environment and social justice.

Campaigners/Lobbyists:
Interest in the Mapuche conflict is growing worldwide and it is imperative we continue to develop this interest further and bring pressure to bear upon the powerful institutions in the decision-making arena.

Subsequently, MIL is always seeking the support of individuals capable of influencing:

  • Politicians (worldwide)
  • Governments (worldwide)
  • International institutions (such as the United Nations and the European Union)
  • N.G.O.'s (especially human rights and environmental organisations)
  • The media (especially mainstream media)

Previous experience of lobbying/campaigning is helpful but not essential for these positions. If you believe you have the skills--and the tenacity--to lobby and campaign for positive change then we would like to hear from you.

Website Assistants:
MIL is constantly seeking to improve the design, content and accessibility of our websites.

The German language version of the MIL web-site was recently developed thanks to the dedication of a German student visiting the UK and we are now seeking to develop a French language version of the MIL web-site. Knowledge of Dreamweaver is desirable but basic training can be provided if necessary. Fluency in French and a good knowledge of English or Spanish is essential. If you can help then we would like to hear from you.

In addition, we urgently need individuals to help maintain and develop the English, German and Spanish language versions of the MIL website. A knowledge of Dreamweaver is desirable but basic training can be provided. Fluency in one of these languages and a working knowledge of another is essential. If you can help then we would like to hear from you.

Translators:
We are always seeking the support of individuals capable of translating news and other information from:

  • Spanish into English
  • Spanish into German
  • Spanish into French
  • English into German
  • French into English

Much of the information we provide is time-sensitive so we operate a pool of translators who can be called upon on either on a regular or ad hoc basis as suits each individual. If you can help then we would like to hear from you.

Fundraisers:
MIL is a voluntary organisation and relies upon donations for the continuation of our work. We are always seeking individuals to help MIL raise additional funds. If you are able to help or if you would like to make a donation then we would like to hear from you.

Special Projects:
MIL is seeking consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). As a part of this process we are required to submit numerous application forms and a written 'Statute' or 'Constitution'. If you believe you can help our submission or if you can help us to draft a formal 'Statute/Constitution' (perhaps you have legal experience) then you're help could be invaluable to the next stage of MIL's development.
